About these tools

Writing tools should give you numbers you can act on, not just a word count. These do: reading time based on adult silent-reading speed, readability scored with the standard Flesch–Kincaid formulas, keyword density so you can see what a page is actually about, and sentence-length distribution that reveals the rhythm problems no spell-checker catches.

The utilities around them handle the mechanical jobs — converting case without retyping, stripping the duplicate lines and stray whitespace out of a pasted list, previewing Markdown exactly as GitHub renders it, generating filler copy that is actually the classic Lorem Ipsum rather than a random word salad. Everything updates as you type, and nothing you write is transmitted anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text stored or sent anywhere?

No. All counting, conversion and analysis happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged or retained after you close the tab.

How is reading time calculated?

From the word count at 225 words per minute, the median adult silent-reading rate for non-technical prose. Speaking time uses 150 words per minute, the usual presentation pace.

What readability scores do you use?

Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level, both computed from syllable, word and sentence counts — the same formulas used by word processors and most SEO tooling.

Do these tools work on mobile?

Yes, including the Markdown editor, which switches to a stacked edit/preview layout on narrow screens.
